On Saturday, May 4th, our In-Motion Event took off and was a TOTAL SUCCESS!!
The day began long before the 4th. With lots of preparation and conversations happening between me, the Symmetrie Team, my incredible models, and all of our wonderful guest media specialists, this event required an army to have created it to be what it was.
I thought I'd share what the beginning stages of my annual styled events looks like. Each event begins with a vision.
Whether the vision began with an inspiration photo on Pinterest or Instagram, or began with a concept I wanted to exercise bringing to life, there was always a predetermined "look" i wanted to capture. Last year and this year had 3 or more concepts, aka multiple different backdrop visions models would be a part of.
This year's 4 concepts were...
Oneness: All of our models spent 45 minutes in a big group setting. Each woman represented different seasons of life, between focusing on school, her career, raising a family, sisterhood, each lady could be paired together and would look like they were meant to be captured together, representing each season as unique and special. The heart behind it was that each woman would be captured being present in their individual season of life and find joy in the "motion" of this time that is unique to them. This concept worked well on film due to intentional color coordination of their outfits and makeup (compliments to the Symmetrie Team) as well as the efforts of each photographer posing our models to be intertwined and our models skills of improv and working together to represent friendship with each direction.
Ladies In White: There's nothing more appealing to the eye than a bunch of babies breath in your face, haha. In celebration for the Spring, our Ladies In White concepts took shape with the blossoming trees. As someone who's coordinated many photo events, a safe way to guarantee a set of bright and airy photos under an overcast sky is having your models wear white. Stark white defines each models beautiful/authentic skin tones as well as encourages their other unique features to POP (their eyes, hair color, lips...). Pair white dresses with white flowers and a white blossoming backdrop, and your focal point becomes the beauty of each unique character trait of our models.
Painting Around: This was the concept that actually started the whole event. 2 years ago, I found this bright, turquoise canvas smock at a thrift store, and the pieces just fell together from there. Loosely based on one of my favorite photoshoots from the incredible @maleyphoto, I wanted my model to be effortlessly painting whatever her body directed her to. The oversized smock as well as her fitted clothes underneath encouraged a care-free and relaxed sheen to our painting concept. I told my model to get messy and oh was she the perfect candidate for the job!
To My Future...: Our final concept was for our 2 mama models, both due next month, AGHHHH. It's safe to say both Erin & Kenna were made to be photographed in this field. Hanging a simple sheet backdrop, the entire focus would be on our mamas writing letters to their sweet babies. This ended up being a last minute concept, funny enough, and it quickly became a crowd favorite as Mother's Day was just around the corner! Using elegant thrifted Hallmark stationary, Erin & Kenna both took time to write out letters to their children. What felt totally different about this concept was that it'd leave a "lasting" affect. It gave everyone time to sit in the joy and beauty of how God created women SO intricately, that we'd be able to MAKE people! We got to watch as our two models processed this incoming season of their lives with sweet rest and joyful anticipation. What a joy it was to capture the intimacy of this moment.
And that was our In-Motion Event!
The results speak for themselves. The Lord was SO good for everything to have fallen into place the way it did. I felt not only blessed to have seen my visions come to life, but to have felt the joy of working with SUCH awesome people. Between all the photographers (who most travelled down from Seattle) who brought their own unique creativity and style to the table to learn from, the effortless looking work of our models who also brought so much LIFE to our team morale, and the stunning, eye catching work of our hair and makeup team, I am left speechless.
Thank you to everyone who's supported this creative project! Nowwwww...
Time to plan next year's ;)
or
Will it be sooner??
Stay tuned.
